God’s grace is not something we earn. It is something God freely and generously gives. In Matthew, Jesus challenges our ideas of fairness through workers who receive the same wage despite working different hours. Their resentment reminds us how easily we can celebrate grace when we receive it but question it when it is extended to someone else. Paul calls us to live lives worthy of the gospel, standing together rather than competing against one another. Together, these passages remind us that grace leaves no room for comparison. We are called to receive God’s generosity with gratitude and extend that same grace to others.
